”It had more than four legs…” 50 years ago BBC TV began a tradition of showing creepy ghost stories on Christmas Eve intended to scare the bejeebers out of young children and send them off to bed screaming and gibbering. Mostly these were short movies, shot on film (usually around 35 minutes) of ghost stories written by the Victorian antiquarian scholar, Montague Rhodes James. M R James was educated and lived his entire life in the academic world of Eton College and Kings College Cambridge. When he became Provost of Kings College he began writing ghost stories, using his extensive knowledge of ancient artefacts and manuscripts. James was very sociable towards his (all male) students and joined the Chit-Chat Club where, on a dark autumnal evening in 1893, he first treated a small gathering of eager boys to a reading of two ghost stories in his oak panelled college rooms. In the flickering candlelight, warmed by the open fire and generous measures of port wine, the students enjoyed the thrill of terror that became an eagerly anticipated annual event in the club’s calendar. In this film the late great Christopher Lee recreates MR James telling his story The Ash Tree. Watch it with the lights turned down, when it’s dark outside, and you’re alone…

So, vampires and werewolves used to be the thing of horror, but slowly they're more in lore and become less 'scary' depending on the writer. In fact, I think their sub-genre goes into Paranormal more often than not, right next to ghosts. I have to ask, though. Where is the line drawn, though? Labels (or tags) can be pretty hard to apply, since works can be rather flexible. When would you jot something down as Horror? When it actually gets frightening or disturbing (or gory)? When does it fall to paranormal or fantasy?

So I'm also working on this story that smashes Silent Hill with some gay drama. I have a general inkling of how it will go but I need people to proofread it just in case because I want to give that sense of dread. I know horror's hard to pull off but I hope you guys can help me out. I was hoping to complete this before October, quite honestly. I hope the turn around can be at most a week. An ASAP turn around is very welcome. Never worked with a beta before, so I'm forced to check grammar myself most of the time. You can at least feel safe that I'll have generally good grammar. ) I generally need someone to help me analyze plot and scenes. I've yet to write some of the other scenes but the outline is there: the beginning and the endgame. Help and suggestions with scenes and dialogue would be welcome. As of now, I'm on Chapter 7 (around 2000-4000 words per chapter), but that's without an editor/beta-reader so I'm not to keen on posting all of it yet. I use LibreOffice and Notepad++ most of the time, file type DOC and TXT. Inline edits and comments are welcome. Just let me know what was edited. My story's first chapter and prologue are already up. Let me know if you'd rather have a spoiler snippet here. I'll edit it in. Click here for a look at the story.

Okay, I'm trying to work on a suspense kind of horror but I don't want it to involve blood but more of the unsettling vibe of something wrong with a place. I'm limited to side-scrolling pixel-based art but most of it, I'll be making on my own. It's that or I write a text-based horror game that will be very vivid and will only provide backdrops of the area. A few games come to mind, but what would you guys suggest?

What if the one you love, who doesn't know you existed, is in danger? How far will you go to protect him? There are some things in this universe best kept secret and away from the curious hands of humanity. Alfred's tale is just among the unfortunate ones that exist out there. The Servant This is a one-shot story, but I hope it pleases your palate. Enjoy...

Hi folks, As the title of this topic says I'd like to know what's your favourite movie, film or tv series. Share them with me. Also what kind of genre do you prefer, where do you watch your movies; at the cinema or at home and do you bring along any friends, maybe your bf/gf? http://s973.photobuc...t=Medium_S5.jpg I'm currently watching Medium, season 7 at home...alone. This movie is about Allison Dubois, a woman with psychic abilities. She usually dreams about murders that are about to happen or that happened in the past. So as you can see I'm crazy about detective/crime movies. I just..simply love them. What about you?

Hello folks. Setting up this thread to be the discussion page for my newest series: Fallen. It is meant to be a true horror series with all the blood and gore to go along with it. I'm hoping to make it a three book series. Each book will be around 100k in length and and cover a length of time of several decades. As with any long series I've written there is going to be a mountain high list of characters. If anyone has an interest in my writing up an index please let me know and I will get to work on it right away. As people who've read my works before know there will be subplots within the main plot. They also know that my main character go through a bit of hell in order to be with the guy they love most. The same is true for this series. In this series the main character, Aaron starts off as a traumatized child. Kidnapped as an infant he witnessed something so horrifying that it left him unable to interact with the outside world. As he grows older showing no sign of improvement his grandmother fears she will have to institutionalize him. Only by random chance he meets someone who knows more about him then he does himself. Jon, a student at a special school for the gifted, knows Aaron has a secret and is dying to find out what it is. He has a secret of his own as well and is waiting for the perfect time to share it. So far I have the final drafts of the first 32 chapters all written up so I hope to post 2 chapters a week so they'll be coming out pretty fast. If you like the series or have any suggestions please feel free to write on the thread and tell me what you think. I promise I don't bit. It's going to be a pretty long one so there should be plenty to discuss. Link to the first book is below. https://www.gayauthors.org/story/JMH/thetalentsofthefallen Take care and enjoy JMH
